Horizon is a leading UK-based machinery company that develops and manufactures innovative machines and components that challenge perceptions, improve efficiency and make a real difference to the environment. Operating across 14 countries, including relationships with 16 premier dealers, Horizon is well positioned for significant growth over the next few years. The product range is vast, and continues to develop under the leadership of an in-house R&D team, but quality of service and delivery are a major USP.
2022 was another strong year for the company and the next few years will see further geographical growth and the investment in a new state-of-the-art factory.
Due to this growth, and the strategic plan, the company is seeking to appoint a Managing Director.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Founder, the Managing Director will have full P&L responsibility for the company and will oversee all manufacturing, sales and product development. The role will be tasked to embed the required structures, systems and processes that will unlock further growth in-line with the business plan. Importantly, this position will help to shape a broader international expansion plan and will play an integral role in the development of customer relationships. Driving sales and operational performance will be important but the Managing Director will work closely with the Founder to ensure that quality of service remains a strong USP. In addition, the Managing Director will be a natural coach and mentor to the senior team and will provide positive challenge to grow the business in a disruptive but sustainable way. Strategically this role will oversee the introduction of the new factory in 2025 and will be responsible for further developments in the group over time.
Success will be determined by sales growth, international expansion and the creation of structures and processes that will determine future growth and increase shareholder value. This will be further enhanced by continuing the company’s reputation for industry-leading quality and delivering great products that make a real difference to the environment.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will have worked in a cross-functional leadership role and will be able to demonstrate a wealth of operational and commercial experience. A good knowledge of the agricultural machinery world, combined with an appreciation of disruptive technologies, would be considered an advantage. An ability to think globally, evidenced by some international experience, and an understanding of how to build partnerships in a dealer-based network are vital. Crucially the Managing Director will be a great leader who is personable in their approach and able to positively challenge and encourage sustainable change. Confidence to operate at a high strategic level is important but considered essential is the ability to demonstrate the softer skills and value set required to succeed in an entrepreneurial owner-managed business.
