HZPC UK is a strategically important part of the Royal HZPC Group, operating across Scotland and the East Midlands. They supply leading varieties to major processing and crisping customers, while driving growth in the retail fresh sector. With a turnover of €25 million, large market share and ambitious plans for growth, HZPC UK are focused on innovation, sustainability, and market leadership in the UK potato industry. Following the announcement of the retirement of the current Managing Director, we are now seeking his replacement.
The Role
As Managing Director, you will oversee production, sales, technical services, and finance, inspiring a high-performing team and fostering a collaborative, challenge-driven culture. You will strengthen relationships with strategic customers and distributors, while championing innovation and sustainability. Driving multi-dimensional planning across 1-, 3-, 5-, and 10-year cycles, balancing short-term tactical decisions with long-term strategic commitments is a priority. The role will connect the UK business to HZPC’s global network and ensuring HZPC remains at the forefront of sustainable potato solutions
This is a pivotal role requiring vision, resilience, and the ability to navigate complexity in a highly seasonal business where 80% of turnover occurs in a 10-week window.
The Candidate
We are looking for an experienced and visionary leader with a strong track record in seed potatoes, ware potatoes, broader crop or vegetable seed breeding, or related agri sectors. Proven leadership experience and the ability to develop and inspire teams are essential.
You will bring numerical and analytical strength for forecasting and production planning, commercial acumen to drive substitution strategies and market share growth, and change management skills to lead an IT system rollout and adapt to evolving regulations and sustainability requirements. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to influence at senior levels. Familiarity with UK agricultural regulations and market dynamics is highly desirable. Above all, the ideal candidate will bring a passion for innovation and sustainability in food systems, coupled with an entrepreneurial mindset and sound judgment.

Location
The role is UK-based, with regular travel across Scotland, the East Midlands, and occasional international trips. Flexibility and mobility are essential to succeed in this senior leadership position.
