With over 700 members, producing over 800m litres of milk per year, First Milk are a farming co-operative who are an integral and growing part of the UK’s dairy industry. The last 7 years have been transformative for the business seeing them double their turnover, achieve B-Corp status and rebrand to “The Regenerative Co-op” – cementing their commitment to regenerative farming and best sustainable practices across the business. They have established long term commitments with their customer base, have developed their supply chain and improved overall farmer confidence and returns First Milk is entering the next phase of its growth plans and is looking to be resourced accordingly. The business has been split into three distinct Business Units and they are seeking a Business Unit Director to manage their Cheese operations.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the CEO, this new P&L responsible role, will have responsibility for the management of their multisite cheese and whey manufacturing operation, leading and executing the next phase of their development and evolution. Each of their sites has an established and experienced leadership team in place. This role will oversee the continued development of these sites – including the site processes, people and ensuring the business maintains their commitment to being “Better Every Day”. First Milk has a long-established B2B customer base and this role will be responsible for further developing these important relationships, both in the UK and Internationally.
The Candidate
This role calls for an experienced individual from a fast moving, food manufacturing environment with a grounding in operational management and the capability to develop strategic commercial relationships. Cultural fit is a crucial component in this appointment so candidates will need to demonstrate a strong leadership style that is hands-on, approachable, inspiring, open and embracing of change that enables their teams to succeed. Suitable candidates will have an affinity for the agricultural sector and an empathy for the commercial and sustainability challenges the whole supply chain are tackling. Whilst this role is homebased, their sites are located across the UK and will require significant travel and presence on-site.
