Fertiliser Director


McCreath Simpson & Prentice is one of the UK’s leading agribusiness companies. Activities include sales of technical farm services through to raw material processing for the food and drink industry. Our client had been searching for more than six months for a high calibre Fertiliser Director, who had strong leadership and strategic skills, and the hands-on commercial ability to manage a multi-million pound trading book. Having already explored a range of recruitment options via other executive search agencies, the pressure was mounting with the incumbent due to retire. Eden Search & Select was engaged to assist the board in identifying and rapidly appointing the right person to this critical role.

One year on from appointment, McCreath Simpson & Prentice are delighted with the strategic and commercial contribution the new Fertiliser Director has made. Our approach

The team’s extensive knowledge of this sector ultimately defined our approach. We immediately recognised there were very few individuals with such a broad skill set within the tight UK fertiliser industry. Knowing that potential candidates were already aware of the opportunity and had not come forward, we broadened our search to look internationally. Using our network we identified key individuals based outside of the UK that were working for global fertiliser companies. Our key focus was on matching the candidate’s previous UK experience to the unique demands of our client’s business.

The results

After targeted mapping we engaged with key industry contacts to establish the potential willingness of target candidates to return to the UK to take up this senior challenging position. Our networking proved fruitful and within a short period, Eden Search & Select presented the ideal candidate. The individual in question fitted the brief, had the right culture and board level experience, and was willing to relocate back to the UK. Due to the quick completion of our search, the time pressure on the business was relieved and plans were put in place for the role handover to be executed in an efficient and structured way.
