The Carr’s Maldon site have an enviable reputation for service and quality which has allowed the business to establish a broad customer mix across different channels. The desire and strategic intent was to increase the pace of development of non-retail elements of the portfolio. Across the business, Carr’s have a significant number of colleagues with long service, all embody the strong people culture. The requirement was to find a skilled Sales Manager to shape and deliver the non-retail strategy and also an individual who would be a strong cultural fit.

Eden held a number of scoping and briefing sessions with the Group Managing Director and Site Leadership Team and with the confidence that the Eden business had the right process and people to match team fit with functional competencies, were appointed as the retained partner for the search.

Having been through this process several times in previous business with different recruitment / search companies, it was not something that was top of my preferences. However, with the help guidance and professionalism of Eden, their personal approach and process made this an enjoyable and successful project for both Carr’s and our new Sales Manager. Knowing your client and your client’s business is so important to a successful conclusion and the team at Eden make this a priority form the start.

Our approach

A detailed and tiered search process was defined to map high performing individuals across direct and then related sectors. A detailed face to face assessment process was also put in place to ensure the Eden project team could determine cultural fit alongside someone’s ability to build and deliver a strategy in this specific sector.

The results

Eden presented a shortlist of 4 high performing individuals all of whom became hugely engaged with the sector and Carr’s business. After a 2 stage interview process with the Carr’s team a candidate was appointed as the best fit for the role and also cited as a potential long term successor to the Group Sales & Marketing Director.
