The Company:-

Pilgrim Foodservice have been serving their customers for more than 40 years. Established in 1979, the business has grown strongly from its base in Boston, Lincolnshire and currently covers an area which goes as far north as Hull right down to London. With an onsite butcher and fresh produce prep facility, the business continues to invest heavily in strengthening their infrastructure which will deliver further improvements to their ability to service their current customers, as well as broadening their overall reach across their operational area. They pride themselves on their customer service and everything they do is geared around delivering the best experience and quality to 2,500 and growing customer base. They have set themselves some ambitious growth targets for the next 3-5 years and are looking to further challenge the accepted beliefs in the sector.

The Role:-

The Operations Director role will be responsible for overseeing the Warehousing and Logistics for the business. Each of these vital functions has a “Head of” managing the day-to-day running of it, but the Operations Director will be working alongside them to highlight strategic improvements and providing executive support. The main aim of all interactions in the business is to provide a better, faster and more effective service for their customers. On the warehouse side, the business has over 5,000 SKU’s, so working to find the best ways to organise and pick products is a key focus. In logistics, effective delivery is the goal. With over 80 trucks in their fleet, this is a big task, whilst also recognising their drivers are vital ambassadors and customer service representatives as well.

The Candidate:-

To be suitable for this role, culture fit is one of the most important factors for the business. The successful candidate will need to have proven warehouse and/or logistics experience, working in a fast-paced environment with a complex set of finished goods. Being overall responsible for a significant team, you will need to demonstrate a proven track record of managing people at various levels. The position is based in Boston, Lincolnshire but the business has invested in an additional depot in Colchester and has ambitious growth targets for the next 3-5 years. Therefore, you will need to be able to travel to ensure the existing and future locations are operating as they should. Experience in a relevant food environment would be a be benefit but isn’t essential.
