Our Client
With a history spanning more than 50 years and with a reputation for consistently delivering high levels of quality and service, Greenvale is a key member of the UK’s fresh produce industry. Greenvale is responsible for in excess of 350,000 tonnes of potatoes yearly and have established a vertically integrated model which gives them significant control over all areas of the supply chain. This includes strong partnerships with breeding houses in order to drive industry leading varietal development, seeking to improve flavour and yields whilst reducing their environmental impact. The business is looking to recruit a Head of Technical and Sustainability, to facilitate continuity of their industry leading standards.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Commercial and Operations Director, this role will be responsible for all technical matters within its packing facilities, as well as working closely with customers, ensuring current and future projects receive a high level of focus. This role will have team responsibility across two sites, March (Cambridgeshire) and Duns (Scottish Borders), with a total of three direct reports, who provide greater focus on site quality and sustainability. The business has a strong focus on continuous improvement which has led to Greenvale achieving BRC audit scores of AA* , however, there are more opportunities to develop. Alongside the technical requirements, this role will be responsible for setting and delivering the company’s sustainability agenda. There has been a significantly increased focus on this area in recent years and Greenvale has ensured it is ahead of the curve, delivering sustainability projects across the business whilst supporting growers with their own improvements. This is a developing area with more exciting projects to deliver and opportunities to explore.
The Candidate
This role requires significant experience within a Fresh Produce environment. Whilst the role doesn’t have direct responsibility for growers, a good understanding of the agronomic practices and the impact these have on the supply chain is beneficial. A key part of this role will be the impact you can have on customer conversations and as such, you will need to demonstrate that you can communicate at all levels. You will need a proven track record of managing and developing a team, ideally understanding the challenges of a multi-site operation, whilst possessing a strong alignment with the business’ culture. You will seek to inspire your team and apply a collaborative approach on how to tackle upcoming challenges with an open and inclusive mindset. Whilst the role is largely based at the Floods Ferry site near March, there will also be a requirement to visit the facility in Duns on a regular basis.
