Pilgrim Foodservice
Head of Transport

Our Client

Pilgrim Foodservice have established an enviable reputation with their customers. This has been built by placing customer service at the heart of everything they do, striving to achieve 100% service levels and going above and beyond to support the hospitality sector. Having doubled in size over the last 5 years, the business has sought to strengthen it’s network and broaden its geographic reach, by establishing distribution hubs and seeking other locations to develop.

Over the last year, with a view to ensuring they have the right structure for continued growth, Pilgrim Foodservice have strengthened their Operations team. In line with this, they are seeking to employ a Head of Transport to oversee their Logistics, Planning and Compliance.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Operations Director and sitting in the Senior Leadership Team, the Head of Transport will be responsible for all the logistics and delivery planning the business undertakes. This is a critical part of Pilgrim Foodservice’s Day to day ability to deliver the best service to their customers, but also in delivering the strategic improvements for their long-term development. Managing 3 core areas of the business, Operations (including 90+ drivers), Planning and Compliance, this role will be responsible for delivering the outstanding service the business has become known for. Each driver is an ambassador for the business, getting to know their regular customers and going the extra mile to support and industry which is under constant strain.

Pilgrim Foodservice pride themselves on operating a next day delivery service, meaning their Planning team have to be able to adapt at short notice to changing landscapes. Communication across the departments is key to both day to day and long-term success. This role will be responsible for maintaining an environment and culture where this is not only possible, but highly effective.

The Candidate

Pilgrim Foodservice operates a no-ego, high accountability model and rewards enthusiastic and hard-working people. Strong cultural alignment, therefore, is critical in order to be successful in this role and to get the best out of your team. The ideal experience would be a candidate who has worked in a fast-paced foodservice business before, understanding the challenges of multi-drop deliveries across a wide area. This could be a role for someone stepping to take on additional responsibility, having successfully managed a team of drivers, or planners before. However, you will need to demonstrate that you have the capability to build on Pilgrim Foodservice’s strong foundations, that you are able to help the business integrate future sites and inspire the team to greater achievements.
