Director of Sustainability EMEA

Opportunity

Dole Plc approached Eden to support them in the search for a Director of Sustainability EMEA. This new role was created to provide leadership and drive the sustainability strategy and its implementation across Europe with the successful candidate being the primary advocate and promoter of the sustainability credentials of Dole in the EMEA marketplace.

Our approach

Eden worked closely with the VP Marketing, Sustainability & Corporate Comms to refine and define the skills, experiences, and characteristics for the appointment focusing on the blend of sustainability excellence, commercial experience, retail knowledge and strategic insight required to develop an international strategy across continents and cultures.

Eden completed a talent identification and engagement process focusing on senior sustainability experts from the Fresh Produce, Fresh Food and the wider Food and Drink Manufacturing industry across EMEA. A candidate pool of 135 individuals was identified and the research team were able to engage with over 80% of those targets which allowed the search to focus on those candidates with specific Fresh Produce, Dairy, Protein and Fresh Food experience.

Our Research Partner and Lead Consultant worked together closely to deliver the key stages of candidate screening, assessment and validation. This approach produced a shortlist of six candidates which Dole considered highly credible and interviewed; with two candidates being brought back for final interviews with other members of the Dole EMEA Board.

The results

After an extensive search and interview process Dole Europe appointed a very experienced Director of Sustainability EMEA from Global GAP who stepped into their first Director role with great success harnessing the power of the Dole European businesses with extensive knowledge of practical application of sustainability practices within the fast, dynamic and challenging world of the fresh food sector.
